biography
the little steppe tucked away in a pocket of the northern fanged crescent lies the little steppe, the traditional home of the quragchin xaela. in their capital, bayanzürkh, boitalak was born, the daughter of a high ranking kheshig in the town guard and one of the first secular schoolteachers in town. her parents had much difficulty conceiving, and so they doted on boitalak, their only child. hard reality of labor boitalak, with little prospect for the future at 17 years of age, did what many of her ethnicity did in similar circumstances: she contacted the xaela chef's society and signed up as a member. she was picked up and started her first culinary job: a chuan cart; she was fired for playing music on her chadyghan to attract guests, something the cart's owner did not approve of. her second job, luckily, had a mentor, old and patient, and she, like many of her profession, bounced about the many eateries on the post roads of the crescent.boitalak, with just a bit of guidance, was a prodigy. despite not particularly applying herself as much as her peers, she quickly worked up the ranks, scoring prestigious jobs including two stints at five lanterns in shigin, a few gigs cooking for nobles, and three years at the blue heron, considered the most prestigious restaurant in the crescent before its closure not long after boitalak quit. sensual pleasure of eating this modicum of success brought no happiness to boitalak. she was prone to fits of depression, medicated with sex. xaela chefs in the crescent were often lonely, forced to chose between starting a family or continuing their careers, and for boitalak it would be no different. many found themselves thinking they could "solve the problem" and finally be the one to break the mold, balancing a family and a chef's career; none succeeded. in her younger days, boitalak would usually sleep with her coworkers, but, as she grew older, she found herself enticed by local married women, the taboo lighting a fire under her, though the trysts were strictly sexual in nature, devoid of romance.unhappy with the strict standards of the blue heron, boitalak (with her dog, oolong) was reassigned by the society to the struggling ishikawa family restaurant in shukubamachi. she expected it to be a short stint to help the restaurant back onto its feet before she could work somewhere more worthy of her talents. unfortunately for her, she was stricken hard by the cruel curse of love, quickly engulfed by the flames of romance with kuri, the waitress, unhappily married to a husband who refused to let her take their three children in the divorce. they kindled their love openly, awaiting the day boitalak would be fired and they'd be split up. tell me what you eat and i'll tell you what you are a chance meeting and an impressive meal served to the members of the soon-to-be-founded crescent society of eorzea gave boitalak a more attractive out from her situation. leaving kuri behind, she made the long overseas journey to ul'dah, saving a stowaway sennin named uruha in the process. her early days consisted of looking for work, which proved a challenge because of her language barrier, and annoying uruha, though she quickly fell into depressive fits as every effort her and kuri made to hasten their reunion seemed only to widen the ocean separating them.ever lucky and deserving of only the best things in life, boitalak was reunited at last with the love of her life after kuri's husband was executed (by uruha, coincidentally) for violating the doro. the pair now run an eatery, laghman gonji, and are married. boitalak also adopted a fluffy daughter, yumai, who helps at the restaurant and gives boitalak something else to worry about. she still doesn't speak any eorzean.
hooks
yes, chef! despite not being her first choice of career, boitalak genuinely enjoys cooking. she's trained in all of the major cuisines of her homeland, and also knows some cuisine of the surrounding regions. she's very nationalistic and firmly believes the further away from the crescent you go, the worse the food gets. she thinks eorzean food is gross, underseasoned, and lacks nutrition. she's happy to share her culinary prowess, though, usually because she likes to see people full and happy, but sometimes just to prove herself right. my seven-stringed chadyghan boitalak, while not a trained musician, has owned and played the chadyghan, a zither native to the fanged crescent, since she was young. she's quite skilled, and a fantastic singer, but she's quite coy about it, preferring to call herself an untrained amateur.

about me
hello! i am boitalak's writer, i am a 30ish year old lesbian and i've been writing off and on for a good portion of my life, and roleplaying seriously for the past few years. boitalak is so cute and i've shed many tears thinking about her. i love creating new cultures for my characters that fit into the game's existing world. i also love au ra a lot. i'm currently in the eastern timezone. my preferred writing style is para or multi-para, but i require some leeway to occasionally write a shorter post or take longer to write due to wrist pain. all the colors on this carrd are related to food, specifically food terms boitalak would be familiar with.my other characters can be found herefront art: rianbu
